Senior Electromechanical Designer

Augustine Consulting Inc. (ACI), an established provider of software engineering, technology, system integration, and select services to the Government, is currently seeking a Senior Electromechanical Designer. The senior designer will plan, coordinate, and perform complex mechanical, electromechanical, wiring, and cabling designs under minimal direction, including discussions with engineers on design parameters, intent, and project functions. The senior designer will use Creo/Windchill CAD applications to perform assigned tasks. In order to perform the activities and responsibilities of this position, the senior designer must have considerable experience in mechanical design, wiring, and design cabling practices, including considerable know-how in the application of engineering principles, equipment design, GD&T, and manufacturing methods.


This position’s duties include designing cabling, wiring, devices, components, apparatus, systems or equipment; Initiating, designing, developing, executing, and evaluating new processes and products; Producing designs, models, and product definition of a complex nature; Determining product requirements based on user needs; Establishing design criteria and resolving problems of design; Using CAD application software to develop electrical or mechanical design concepts; Evaluating design options using optimization techniques; Generating fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and files for manufacturing, assembly, and test; Specifying materials, equipment, and supplies required to complete product development; Evaluating vendor capabilities to provide required products or services; Although the designer must be able to carry out his/her assignment independently, he/she may sometimes consult with or utilize information obtained from various Sandia organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have the ability to obtain a Q (DOE top secret) level clearance
  • Associate Degree (BS desired) in Drafting or Mechanical Engineering Technology from a Community College or an accredited Technical Institute. Specialized experience may be substituted for Technical Institute or Community College training on a two-for-one basis respectively, i.e., four (4) years of applicable experience is equivalent to a two (2) year Associate Degree.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of Creo Parametric, formerly - Pro-E (10,000 hours actual use time)
  • 1-2 years’ experience with Windchill,/PDM Link, or other PDM systems
  • Experience in support of CAD based libraries.
  • The ability to apply technical judgment based upon engineering principles in the design and development of innovative products
  • Utilizes creativity to formulate design concepts that meet the form, fit, and functional requirements for new product concepts
  • Efficient with use of the suite of Microsoft Office products.
  • Possess the ability to work within the confines and restrictions of a classified environment including basic understanding of multi-process environment for releasing CAD data encompassing classified, unclassified, weapon related and non-weapon related work.
  • Have the ability to manage multiple customers/jobs at the same time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fifteen (15) years of designer level experience in defense and/or commercial aerospace CAD related work is preferred
  • Possession of a general understanding of cabling in mechanical weapon systems (at component and system level)
  • Experience with assembly management/manufacturing and DFM techniques.
  • Applied use of GD&T and tolerance studies.
  • Experience using physical and computational simulation, analysis, and design trade studies as inherent activities of product development
  • Ability to ensure design feasibility from a manufacturing and product maintenance perspective
